A Day in Girona

Mushrooms galore!

Mushrooms galore!

This past weekend a wonderful Catalan classmate of mine took us to his home town in Girona to celebrate their yearly mushroom festival or shall I say bolet. The day started with a wonderful mushroom filled meal at this parents restaurant complete with mushroom lasagna, meatballs with mushrooms and prawns.

The meal was as amazing as you could hope for and the dessert (while not including mushrooms – that would be disgusting) was just as phenomenal. This torta whiskey was so delicious that when we found ourselves with an extra one by accident it was gone in no time!

The most amazing dessert!

After we were all feed and water, we headed into the town to enjoy the medieval festivities. There were stalls all along the narrow winding road that lead into the town square. Shop owners were dressed up, the cava was free-flowing and we even met the town mayor and took a group picture with him.

There was even a group of men toasting fresh chestnuts and they were absolutely delicious, as was everything else that we ate from this point including jelly candies, cheese, churros, and bunyols. It’s a wonder that I was still able to eat something after this day! What an amazing and delicious journey just an hour outside of the city. 🙂
